The airport

We are committed to preserving the environment

We are committed to preserving the environment

Carcassonne airport has been committed for several years to reducing its environmental impact.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

Carcassonne airport engaged alongside the AERO BIODIVESITE association:

Created in 2015 in partnership with the Air France group, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the National Museum of Natural History, the Aero Biodiversity association works to observe and study the ecosystems of participating airports and among pioneer airports that of Carcassonne.

Outside the industrial zone, an airport and its runways are surrounded by green spaces and closed aeronautical meadows and protected from numerous human actions for safety reasons.

Nature is thus often preserved and sheltered from urban development.

How do these observations and readings take place? : by setting up participatory scientific protocols which allow, on the one hand, a better understanding of the biodiversity of the platforms and, on the other hand, the appropriation of this knowledge by the airport staff involved in the process.

Space managers integrate biodiversity into their management and soon it will be the turn of users and residents to discover the wealth of airport meadows.

Ecosystems play an important role in the landscape environment (pollinators, water quality, etc.) so the airport, in addition to its primary role, can play a positive role in the urban and peri-urban fabric. An airport is an industrial environment in an open space, an ideal viewing ground for animal life. Human activities are localized there and therefore not very disturbing.

Airport Carbon Accreditation

Airport Carbon Accreditation

Carcassonne airport registered in the ACA program !

The aviation sector (whose innovation is an integral part of its DNA) seeks to develop activities in favour of the climate. Airports, a visible part of air transport on the ground, bring undeniable benefits to society by connecting places, people and products. After years of working to address their own impact on the environment, airports are now working collectively across the globe to advance in the management, reduction and, ultimately, neutralization of their carbon footprint. Carcassonne airport, concerned about environmental issues, has already taken steps to join the ACA program.

The ACA: Airport Carbone Accreditation is a program developed by the ACI (International Airports Council) which encourages the efforts of airports in this process. This program provides airports with a common framework for the active management of carbon emissions with measurable indicators through 4 levels of accreditation.
